Business Publicity and Promotion
Through Teleseminars and Teleconferences
Part 4 - Getting Expert Guest Speakers for Free
George McKenzie - One of the things that comes up is I’ve been on some seminars with some really high-powered folks
who if you went to them and you said, would you do a consulting session with me for an hour, they’d say sure
- write me check for $300 bucks or give me your credit card number and we’d just go from there. How do you get
some of the expert guest speakers who are on your teleseminars? I mean the real high quality
people that folk want to listen to and will pay money to listen to, how do you get them to come on a teleseminar
and withoutgetting paid because that’s what happens with most of them right? Youu don’t pay people to be on a
teleseminar with you?
Dan Janal - They do it for the free publicity. It’s very rare that I would ever have to pay anyone because it's
a marketing and publicity vehicle for them. I have heard in some cases where say to work for higher arrangement and
one coming a massive list of sales trainers basically called a friend of mine and had her do an hour and half
presentation for $500 and she gave up all rights to that work for that recorded work and they went around and sold
that CD and sold the presentation for $200 a piece, so she was happy that she got $500 and they were happy that
they sold this disk you know, 200 times whatever but that’s the exception, just a different business model.
You don’t have to pay guests and that’s the first thing I would really say to anyone who asked me and the reason
is you know George you mentioned, “Hi, I’m a high-priced consultant write me a check, I’ll be happy to talk with
you.” You know you have to throw away that period. They’re not consulting. What they’re doing is getting free
publicity to a new audience without having to travel anywhere or present anything new.
So basically you’re asking questions I’ve been asked a thousand times before. I don’t have to do a power point
presentation or you know web cast to you know in front a live audience in a hotel so I just talk off the top of my
head and maybe follow an outline and some ideas that we’ve talked earlier and follow this vague outline that we’ve
had and be perfectly happy and then 5 minutes later I’m going upstairs and watching the rest of the twins game. So
it works for me and it will work for you if you tell the guest all the things that you’re going to do to help
them…because of free publicity. Well yes I’m giving free publicity to the people listening here now, so George also
sent out a message to how many hundreds or thousands of people on his lists and some of them are here but you know,
you’re not going to 100% attendance no matter what but all those people on his list got another impression of me.
They’ve heard my name maybe for the first time, maybe for the tenth time and one day they’re going to get enough
impressions of me that they’re actually gonna come and visit my website or buy from me or have some kind of
interaction with me so that’s all part of the process and all smart people know that. So anything that they can do
to get in front of another audience without having spent any money is definitely a good deal.
Now one thing I do for guests on my seminars is that I give them a copy of the cd and say, do with it what you
will. If you want to make copies of it and give it to your client as a freebee or promo that’s fine with me. If you
want to make copies of it and sell it to your people on your website or your list that’s fine too. Too me that’s my
payback to them. Now I don’t know if this is the industry standard or not I’m sure some people have a tighter view
of copyright laws and/or regulations of their own and intellectual property and they want to control everything,
but that’s not me.
You know, if it’s you than that’s you and that’s fine, but I’m just as happy to give people the disk and that
way they say, you know, if I had to go into a studio and create this kind of thing and have a voice over announcer
like George to be part of it. George is going to cost me $150 for that hour and you have do a couple of extra cakes
too, so if I get in their for 2 hours and it cost me $300 or $400 for his time plus the studio time, so you got any
kind of halfway decent thought that can cost me at least $500 to $1000 right there.
But if you’re a guest on one of my seminars or guest on you’re teleseminar you’re offering this person a gift, a
cost that they could sell for just an hour of their time with no other costs, you’re doing them a great service and
let them know that you’re doing them a great service so they want to work with you and they’re like begging to work
with you and instead of taking some kind of superior air that you know, hey I’m the best selling author and speaker
and I should get paid lots and lots of money because I’m helping you make money through free publicity and
promotion of your business. It all comes out in the end, it really does.
